Circle Home Care
Caregiver Support Group

Why is there a need for a caregiver support group?
As the elderly population increases, more demands are placed on caregivers. It is estimated that three-quarters of the severely disabled elders receiving home care services rely solely on family members or other unpaid help. Eight of ten informal caregivers provide unpaid assistance an average of four hours per day, seven days a week.

In addition to the ever-increasing number of individuals caring for the elderly, many people care for loved ones who are not elderly, but simply cannot take care of themselves.

The intense, constant supervision and attention these people require can take its toll on the person providing these needs. A caregiver support group can help.

A support group provides emotional support people need to cope with demands placed upon them, and it is an outlet for voicing a patient's concerns, sharing frustrations, anger, and guilt that caregivers often do not express. It can also generate solutions to shared problems, and can be a forum where individuals can discover available patient services.

Also, a support group provides time away from the patient, time when one can relax and enjoy refreshments and good conversation with others who share the same needs and concerns.

Who provides this service? How much does it cost?
