Ft. Chiswell Clinic receives Gold Star award for vaccine compliance.

Wythe County Community Hospital recognizes Wythe Physician Practices Family Care & Women’s Health – Ft. Chiswell as the recipient of the Gold Star award for immunization compliance.
Cathie Harrington, MSN, PNP-BC, FNP-BC has been the administrator of the Vaccine for Children program at the Ft. Chiswell clinic since 2012. Recently, the Virginia Department of Health and Immunization Services has recognized Wythe Physician Practices Family Care & Women’s Health vaccine program by awarding the “Gold Star” for immunization compliance. The Ft. Chiswell clinic was the only clinic recognized with this award in Southwest Virginia, with the closet clinic being in Richmond.
Immunizations have had an enormous impact on improving the health of children in the United States. Vaccination is one of the best ways parents can protect infants, children, and teens from over 16 harmful diseases. Harrington has provided primary care to families and children in Wythe County since 1998. Harrington and her staff have been leaders in promoting childhood immunizations, education and guidance regarding caregiver concerns. She continues to promote infant, child and adolescent wellness including a full vaccine program at the clinic located in Ft. Chiswell.
“According to the Virginia Department of Health’s website, Virginia Vaccine For Children (VVFC) currently has over 700 facilities enrolled in the program as either a private facility or a public facility,” said Tracy Hanks, office manager for the clinic. “To be in the top 8 out of 700 facilities demonstrates the care and dedication Ms. Harrington and her staff have for their patients.”
