Car Seat Safety

As children grow, how they sit safely in a car, truck, van or SUV changes. For maximum child passenger safety, parents and caregivers simply need to remember and follow these guidelines:

  • Use rear-facing car seats in the back seat from birth to until 2 years old or until they reach the rear facing car seat's weight or height limit.
  • Use forward facing seats in the back seat once they are over age 2 or have outgrown the rear facing car seat’s weight or height limit.
  • Use booster seats in the back seat once they have outgrown the forward-facing car seat’s weight or height limit.
  • All children are required to be properly secured in a car seat until at least age 8.
  • Safety belts may be used at age 8 in the back seat. Consider keeping your 8-12 year old in a booster seat until they fit correctly in a seat belt.
  • All children younger than age 13 should ride in the back seat.

Some parents or caregivers may think booster seats are inconvenient or worry their  kids won't want to use them. Every moment of safety is worth the effort. Choosing a booster seat shows your love and commitment to protecting your child(ren). Use a booster seat because you love them.
