Sedation Dentistry
Dental care when traditional visits are difficult
For some patients, getting dental care is not as simple as making an appointment. Medical conditions, developmental differences, complex health needs or anxiety can make routine dental visits difficult. Some patients may delay care for years because a traditional dental office is not the right setting for their needs.
At Wythe County Community Hospital, sedation dentistry allows children and adults to receive dental treatment under general anesthesia. This specialized approach makes care possible for patients who may not tolerate office-based treatment.
Our goal is to help patients receive needed dental care safely and comfortably while improving their oral health and confidence.
Sedation dentistry may be appropriate for patients with:
- Intellectual disabilities
- Developmental disabilities
- Complex medical histories
- Dental anxiety
- Special care needs
Dental services may include:
- Oral exams
- Dental imaging
- Teeth cleanings
- Tooth extractions
- Other dental procedures
All procedures take place in the hospital, where patients are continuously monitored by board-certified anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists throughout treatment. This team approach helps ensure a safe, supportive experience while allowing multiple dental needs to be addressed during a single visit whenever possible.
Care is provided by Dr. Deidre Wilson, who is certified to work alongside anesthesia providers and supports patients who need a more specialized approach to dental treatment. Working together, the team helps patients overcome barriers to care and take the next step toward a fresh, healthy and beautiful smile.
