August 27, 2025
Wythe County Community Hospital, a Lifepoint Health hospital, announced today that Theresa Dix, MSN, RN, CPPS, has been named chief executive officer, effective Sept. 15.
Dix began her career at Wythe County Community Hospital in 1983 as a charge nurse in the ICU/CCU and later moved into leadership, taking on roles such as director of surgical services, interim medical-surgical director and house supervisor beginning in 2007. She was named chief nursing officer in 2011 and served in that role until 2019, when she served as CNO at another Lifepoint Health facility in North Carolina. She returned to Wythe County Community Hospital in 2022 to continue serving as CNO, reflecting not only her strong ties to the hospital but also her deep commitment to serving the community she calls home.
In her time as CNO, Dix worked alongside the hospital’s leadership team to strengthen quality outcomes, enhance patient safety initiatives and support hospital growth. Together, they advanced a culture of excellence that has positioned Wythe County Community Hospital for continued success.
“Theresa is a proven leader who brings decades of experience in nursing, clinical quality and hospital administration,” said William Haugh, division president for Lifepoint Health’s central division. “Her deep ties to this hospital and community, along with her passion for patient safety, quality and service excellence, make her the ideal choice to lead Wythe County Community Hospital into the future. She is the right leader to carry forward the momentum already underway and to continue building on the strong foundation in place.”
Dix has more than 40 years of healthcare experience and has led hospitals to recognition in the National Quality Program and Leapfrog “A” Safety Grades. She is known as a collaborative and compassionate leader who is deeply committed to supporting caregivers, mentoring future nurse leaders, advancing clinical outcomes and strengthening community trust in healthcare.
“I am truly humbled to step into the role of CEO at Wythe County Community Hospital,” Dix said. “This hospital has been part of my life and career for more than four decades. I have walked these halls as a nurse, a leader and a neighbor, and I know firsthand the dedication of the people who work here. It is the honor of my life to serve this team and this community in a new way. As we look ahead, my focus will be on building on our strengths, expanding access to high-quality care and ensuring WCCH continues to be a trusted place of healing for our region. Together, we will advance our mission of making communities healthier.”
